General What is Grana Global Ranking?

Grana Global Ranking is a comprehensive system for evaluating and ranking universities in Latin America using 10 objective and transparent criteria to measure educational quality, research, social impact, and academic excellence of higher education institutions.

Our goal is to provide reliable and updated information to help students, families, institutions, and governments make informed decisions about higher education.

General How often is the ranking updated?

The ranking is updated annually, with the official publication taking place every October. Throughout the year, we conduct a continuous process of data collection and verification that includes:

  • Institutional data collection (January-April)
  • Verification and validation (May-July)
  • Analysis and calculations (August-September)
  • Publication and dissemination (October)

General Which countries are included in the ranking?

We currently evaluate universities from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. We are working to expand our coverage to other countries in the region.

Criteria What are the 10 evaluation criteria?

Our 10 evaluation criteria are: Academic Quality (15%), Research and Innovation (15%), Employability (12%), Infrastructure (10%), Internationalization (10%), Social Responsibility (10%), Diversity and Inclusion (8%), Sustainability (8%), Pedagogical Innovation (7%), Regional Impact (5%).

Criteria Why these specific weights for each criterion?

The weights were determined through a rigorous process that included expert consultation, comparative analysis of international methodologies, consideration of the regional context, and statistical validation. We prioritize academic quality and research as fundamental pillars, followed by employability as an indicator of practical relevance.

  • Expert Consultation: Panel of 50+ academics and higher education professionals
  • Comparative Analysis: Study of international methodologies (QS, THE, ARWU)
  • Regional Context: Consideration of the specific needs of Latin America
  • Statistical Validation: Correlation and consistency tests
Ranking How is the final score calculated?

The final score is calculated using a weighted formula:

Final Score = Σ(Criterion_i × Weight_i) × 100

Each criterion is evaluated on a scale of 0 to 10, and the final result is presented on a scale of 0 to 100 points.

Example:

  • Academic Quality: 8.5 × 0.15 = 1.275
  • Research: 7.8 × 0.15 = 1.170
  • Employability: 9.2 × 0.12 = 1.104
  • Infrastructure: 8.0 × 0.10 = 0.800
  • Internationalization: 7.5 × 0.10 = 0.750
  • Social Responsibility: 8.3 × 0.10 = 0.830
  • Diversity and Inclusion: 7.9 × 0.08 = 0.632
  • Sustainability: 8.1 × 0.08 = 0.648
  • Pedagogical Innovation: 7.7 × 0.07 = 0.539
  • Regional Impact: 8.4 × 0.05 = 0.420
  • Total: 82.3 points
Ranking Can universities appeal their position?

Yes, we have a formal appeal process that allows universities to:

  1. Request a review (30 days): After the ranking publication
  2. Submit evidence: Documentation supporting the requested correction
  3. Independent evaluation: External committee reviews the appeal
  4. Resolution (60 days): Final decision and, if applicable, public correction

Appeals must be based on factual or methodological errors, not disagreement with the general methodology.
